School Reopening – October Update

26 Oct 2020 | BY leekhigh

Dear Parents and Carers,

School Reopening – October Update

I hope that you and your families remain safe and well.
We have now been back for half a term and the start to this year has continued to be positive.

As we break for half term I would like to remind you that students must bring and wear plain, washable face masks to school each day; this is much safer than reusing disposable face masks, more cost effective and also much more environmentally friendly. As long as COVID-19 restrictions remain in place, face masks are being treated as part of normal school uniform. Students failing to bring or wear face masks may be sent home to correct this in order to protect the health of other students and staff.

I would also like to take this opportunity remind you of our expectations for students regarding uniform.
The school uniform is:
• A black blazer with the school badge.
• A plain black V-neck jumper or cardigan can be worn with the blazer if required when students are cold; hoodies of any kind, including PE hoodies, are not acceptable as an alternative.
• A white long or short-sleeved shirt (not a polo shirt).
• A school tie.
• Plain black trousers (not denim, leggings, fashion trousers, cords, or sportswear).
• Plain black footwear.

Students should also have a warm winter coat that should preferably be black.
Jewellery must be removed completely for practical activities in some lessons.
Students must wear clear studs in piercings at all times for health and safety reasons.

Also, the expectations for students moving around school remain the same:
• Face masks must be worn when moving around inside the school buildings or canteen.
• Hands must be sanitised when entering and leaving classrooms, it is also useful and saves time if students have their own sanitiser.
• Students must observe social distancing and follow the restricted movement system.
• Students must remain in their designated year group areas at break and lunch to preserve their year group ‘bubble’.
• Mobile phones should be out of sight and on silent throughout the school day. Students using their mobile phones, unless instructed to do so by a member of staff, will have them confiscated.

I am pleased to note that the vast majority of students are already meeting all of these expectations. I would be grateful though if you could check your child’s uniform before we return from the half term holiday and also check that they clearly understand our expectations for movement around school.

Thank you for your continuing support in these challenging times.
Yours sincerely

P. Evans
