Dear Parents, Carers and Students
2021 Qualifications Update
I am writing to let you know that the DfE announced yesterday that the scheduled examinations for vocational qualifications including BTEC Level 2 Tech Awards, Firsts, Technicals and Level 3 Nationals will not go ahead in February or March. In addition to the announcement regarding examinations, it was also confirmed that the standards verification processes for internal assessments will continue with some adaptations. Subject teachers will be informing students of any changes to internal assessments.
I want to reassure you that we will put arrangements in place for students who are now unable to take these assessments to ensure they are in no way disadvantaged. So, those who were expecting to complete their BTEC or other vocational qualification this year will be able to progress normally.
I can also confirm that the DfE and Ofqual guidance for continuing the January examinations, at the discretion individual centres, still stands from last week. For schools that decided to hold these exams, the exam boards have also announced that arrangements will be put in place to ensure that no students are disadvantaged.
It was also announced yesterday that the Education Secretary has asked Ofqual to consult on alternative arrangements for the awarding of grades GCSE, AS and A levels based on teacher assessment. Identifying the evidence that might be used to inform teachers assessment will be a key part of this consultation which is expected to be launched by the end of this week lasting for two weeks. The consultation will also explore the possibility of providing external assessments that teachers might also use to support their assessments of students.
We expect more detailed plans to be set out following the consultation at the end of this month and will keep you fully updated as we receive further information.
Yours sincerely
P. Evans
