Easter Holiday Lateral Flow Home Tests, Uniform and Behaviour

30 Mar 2021 | BY leekhigh

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that you and your families are well. This letter is to let you know about arrangements for home testing over the Easter break and our expectations for school uniform and behaviour next term.

Thank you for your support in the roll-out of home testing for students and the wearing of face coverings. Regular testing of students and staff helps us to have the earliest notice of positive cases, assisting us in avoiding self-isolation for contacts as much as possible.

Please continue to encourage and support your sons/daughters to wear face coverings, take home tests and submit their results.

This week we are issuing a further two boxes of tests to cover the Easter break period. Students should continue to test throughout the holidays on a Sunday and Wednesday evening and should continue to report their results to both the NHS (as per the instructions in the kit) and to the school’s text system. It is especially important that students who are testing, test on Sunday 18th April and report this result that evening before the return of all students to school the following day.

If you experience the following symptoms: loss of smell or taste, raised temperature or a new continuous cough then you should self-isolate and order a PCR test rather than use the LFD test kits from school.

After the Easter break, with the weather improving, students will be expected to return to wearing just normal school uniform. Students will no longer be allowed to wear extra nonuniform clothing such as branded jumpers, sweatshirts and hoodies. Students not complying with the school’s uniform policy will be asked to correct their uniform and if they fail to do so, sanctions will be put in place and contact home will be made.

The school uniform continues to be:

A black blazer with the school badge.
A plain black V-neck jumper or cardigan can be worn if required (not a hoodie).
A white long or short-sleeved shirt (not a polo shirt).
A school tie.
Plain black trousers (not denim, leggings, cords, or sportswear).
Plain black footwear (not brown boots).
– Jewellery must be removed completely for practical activities in some lessons. Students must wear clear studs in piercings at all times for health and safety reasons.

Students may now use their mobile phones at break time and lunch but only outside the school buildings or if they are inside The Fulmar. This is a temporary change to our mobile phone policy to support student wellbeing, with many students anxious about family members during the school day. Mobile phones should be out of sight and on silent during lessons and when moving between lessons. Students will still have their mobile phones confiscated if they are using them inappropriately.

Also, our measures to maintain COVID-19 health and safety remain the same:

Face coverings must be worn at all times when inside the school buildings and in lessons – this applies to all non-exempt staff and students. To remain comfortable it is advisable to bring a change of face covering every day.
– Hands must be sanitised when entering and leaving classrooms, it is also useful and saves time if students have their own sanitiser.
– Students must observe social distancing and follow the restricted movement system including only going up and coming down designated staircases.
– Students must remain in their designated year group areas at break and lunch to preserve their year group ‘bubble’. The changes in timings of the school day introduced last term will remain in place to allow a staggered lunch break with year group bubbles fully separated.

At present, it is our understanding that the current expectations for testing and for face masks will continue after Easter, though we will obviously inform you should there be any changes.

I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate students on what has been an excellent return to school; the vast majority have fully complied with our expectations at all times, making access to learning as calm and as safe as possible for everyone. Your continued support has been a major factor in our successful reopening.

I wish you all a safe and Happy Easter.

Yours sincerely
P. Evans
