Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope that you and your families are well and have managed under the additional stresses and strains that this week has brought.
This letter contains information on the return to school next week, from Monday 7th June.
As you can imagine, our aim will be to ensure that the school environment is as safe as it possibly can be for students and staff alike.
With this in mind, and following liaison with Public Health England, we will from next week expect all students and staff to wear face masks in all indoor communal spaces (other than when eating or drinking), and in classrooms. Students complied very well with this requirement on their return to school back in March, and though we know it is not ideal, we are sure that they will do so again. Students should bring face masks with them to school each day. We do have a stock of face masks in school should a student break or forget to bring one, but this should be an exception rather than a rule.
All our other infection control measures will remain in place including specific social areas for year group bubbles, one-way systems, staggered use of the canteen, the cleaning of desks between lessons and the use of sanitiser by students and staff. To support us with good hand hygiene, we would ask that students bring sanitiser with them where possible, though it will be available on the way into all classrooms.
We will continue to supply Lateral Flow Tests to students. It is essential that these are completed twice a week (on a Sunday and Wednesday night) and the results reported to minimise the risk of COVID-19 spreading in school.
Finally, it is crucial that students do not attend school if they feel at all unwell or if they should be isolating due to contact with a positive case. Students experiencing any symptoms should stay off school and book a PCR test at the earliest opportunity.
Y11 and Year 13 Assessments
We are planning to invite some Year 11 and Year 13 students into school next week to give them the chance to complete assessments that will go towards the evidence for their Teacher Assessed Grades this summer. We will of course consider the context of each student; should they be unable to attend to complete an assessment we’ll be sure that they are not disadvantaged by this.
Relevant students and parents/carers will be contacted by email and telephone to make them aware of these assessment slots.
Y11 Induction Sessions
From next week (beginning on Monday 7th June) it was our plan to offer optional transition sessions to all Year 11 students in the build-up to our Sixth Form Induction Day. We will now offer these transition sessions for two weeks from Monday 14th June. We will reissue the timetable to students to make it clear what is on offer and when. Students applying (or considering applying) to the Sixth Form do not have to attend these sessions, though they do offer the chance for students to try the subjects they are considering studying with us next year.
We appreciate that both parents and students will be anxious about returning to school next week. As it has been throughout the pandemic, our aim will be to give students the best experiences possible whilst taking every step we can to ensure their safety.
Over the next few days and weeks, we’ll be continuing to review the situation and will change our approach at any point should it be necessary to keep everyone safe.
We’re depending on yourselves and on students to work with us to ensure our young people get the most out of their time in school in the next few weeks.
Please do get in touch should you have any questions.
