Final half of the summer term

07 Jun 2021 | BY leekhigh

Dear Parents and Carers,

Final half of the summer term

I hope that you and your families are well. This letter is to let you know about our expectations and arrangements for the final half of this term.

Thank you for your continued support with home testing for students. Regular testing of students and staff helps us to have the earliest notice of positive cases, assisting us in avoiding self-isolation for contacts as much as possible. Please continue to encourage and support your sons/daughters to test on a Sunday and Wednesday evening and to report their results to both the NHS (as per the instructions in the kit) and to the school’s text system. It is especially important that students who are testing, test on Sunday 6th June and report this result that evening before the return of all students to school the following day. Home testing and reporting how to guide Link to report your result If you experience the following symptoms: loss of smell or taste, raised temperature or a new continuous cough then you should self-isolate and order a PCR test rather than use the LFD test kits from school.

After the half term break, with the warmer weather finally arriving, students will be expected to return to wearing normal school uniform. Students will no longer be allowed to wear extra non-uniform clothing such as branded jumpers, sweatshirts and hoodies. Students not complying with the school’s uniform policy will be asked to correct their uniform and if they fail to do so, sanctions will be put in place and contact home will be made. The school uniform continues to be:

  • A black blazer with the school badge.
  • A plain black V-neck jumper or cardigan can be worn if required (not a hoodie).
  • A white long or short-sleeved shirt (not a polo shirt).
  • A school tie.
  • Plain black trousers (not denim, leggings, cords, or sportswear).
  • Plain black footwear (not brown boots).
  • Jewellery must be removed completely for practical activities in some lessons. Students must wear clear studs in piercings at all times for health and safety reasons.

Students may continue to use their mobile phones at break time and lunch after half term but only outside the school buildings or if they are inside The Fulmar. This temporary change to our mobile phone policy to support student wellbeing will end when we break up for the summer holiday. Mobile phones should still be out of sight and on silent during lessons and when moving between lessons. From September mobile phones must be kept on silent and out of sight at all times throughout the school day as per our normal policy.

Also, our current measures to maintain COVID-19 health and safety remain the same:

  • Hands must be sanitised when entering and leaving classrooms, it is also useful and saves time if students have their own sanitiser.
  • Students must observe social distancing and follow the restricted movement system including only going up and coming down designated staircases.
  • Students must remain in their designated year group areas at break and lunch to preserve their year group ‘bubble’.

For the rest of this term lunch will return to its normal time of 1pm to 1.50pm. Year 9 and Year 10 will remain in bubbles and take lunch separately.

I wish you all a safe and enjoyable half term.

Yours sincerely

P. Evans
