Dear Parents and our Leek High community,
I would like to share with you the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection 5th and 6th June 2024. When I started at Leek High School in January 2023, the school has been judged to be inadequate and in Special Measures for 9 months (March 2022)
In January 2023, I set about implementing a new Improvement plan and set the new standards and expectations for a ‘new Leek High School’. I wanted simplicity with outcomes that all could achieve. I am hugely proud to say that Ofsted have recognised this and have judged Leadership and Management, Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development and the Sixth Form all to be ‘Good’. Ofsted have judged Quality of Education to be ‘Requires improvement’ and have been specific about 2 areas for improvement, which were on our plan also and we are already working towards.
The inspection report recognises the progress made by staff and students in raising both education standards and the experience here at Leek High School.
– Leek High School has turned a corner.
– The Headteacher has transformed the school
– Pupils now benefit from stable staffing, clear boundaries and a culture of mutual respect.
– Pupils feel supported and well cared for.
– They know that teachers have their best interests at heart.
– The school has established high expectations for pupils’ attendance and behaviour and for their learning.
– Attendance is well above the national average, pupils behave well and they are keen to do their best.
– Pupils say they are proud to belong to the school.
– Careers education is well considered and well planned. This helps pupils have high aspirations for their future.
– Students in the Sixth Form go on to highly positive destinations.
The inspection team reviewed recent improvements in school life and our plans for the future. I am delighted that the Ofsted report recognised the progress our school community has made in the last 18 months.
Myself, my team, the Board of Governors and The Talentum Learning Trust are committed to creating a vibrant, aspirational school community for our staff and students — truly. We will continue to raise standards in the quality of education, in our classrooms and to ensure that learning is appropriate for students’ developing needs.
Our areas for improvement from Ofsted are:
– Assessment— Ensuring it is used consistently
– Implementation of the curriculum
We have persistently worked on those areas for improvement before, during and after the inspection in June. We have a new school improvement plan in place which will secure the good in Quality of Education and Outstanding in the other areas. Our desire burns as brightly as ever!
You can find a full copy of the Ofsted report here.
Alternatively, you can ask reception for a printed copy.
Thank you for your continued positivity and support, it has been a defining factor.
Kind Regards
Mr K Graham
