Transition to high school is one of the most significant changes in a child’s life, which is why, at Leek High School, we place the utmost importance on getting it right to ensure that all our new Year 9 students are happy, motivated and wanting to be ‘the best that they can be’.

As a school community our vision is to inspire a love of learning in every young person so that they believe in their dreams and celebrate achievement. Our core values of INSPIRE, BELIEVE and ACHIEVE, aim to develop students as confident lifelong learners by:

  • Inspiring a love of learning that gives everyone a sense of belief they can achieve
  • Providing a safe caring and supportive learning environment
  • Developing and valuing positive respectful relationships
  • Teaching an outstanding curriculum that is broad, balanced and inclusive

In order to ensure that we have up-to-date personal data for your child we ask that you complete an online personal data and permissions form which can be accessed at:

During the summer term we allocate our new students to tutor and academic groups. At Leek High your child will be taught in mixed ability classes in all curriculum subjects including the core curriculum subjects of English, Maths and Science. We will consult closely with your child’s current school to ensure that every teaching group has a balanced mix of students across a range of academic abilities. To assist with this process we also ask our new students to complete a short online personal information questionnaire. This allows them to nominate friends with whom they would like to work. The questionnaire can be accessed at:

We do ask that you recognise the importance of ensuring an even mix of gender, abilities and talents within teaching groups, as well as providing students with special educational needs the support they require. For these reasons, we must stress that we are unable to guarantee to meet the requests of every student.
